Geography

Our Geography curriculum and our teaching ensures that pupils will be motivated, engaged in their learning and challenged appropriately. Our pupils will have developed the knowledge of how to think from a geographical perspective. They will be able to make informed choices and decisions on how they choose to live in their local environment. Pupils will gain an understanding of their roles and responsibilities towards our planet and the lives of people and animals around them. Working towards and maintaining our Eco-School Award is a focus for this work, linking both the school and the community. Children at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery will have a love of learning and enthusiasm for Geography, which they will draw upon and develop throughout their lives.

 

History

Our History curriculum and our teaching ensures that pupils will be motivated, engaged in their learning and challenged appropriately. Our pupils will have the knowledge and understanding of how to think from an historical perspective. They will complete research through projects to further their own enjoyment and knowledge about the subject or topic being studied. As historians, children will learn lessons from history to influence the decisions they make in their lives in the future. Children at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery will have a love of learning and enthusiasm for History, which they will draw upon and develop throughout their lives.

 

Art & Design

Our Art and Design curriculum and our teaching ensures that pupils will be motivated, engaged in their learning and challenged appropriately. The structure of the Art curriculum ensures that children are able to develop their knowledge and understanding of the work of artists, craftspeople and designers from a range of times and cultures and apply this knowledge to their own work. Pupils will develop their confidence and independence in the subject and apply the key principles of art: line, tone, texture, shape, form, space, pattern, colour and contrast. Children’s achievements are celebrated and demonstrate the subject’s high status in the school, with classroom and corridor displays reflecting the children’s sense of pride in their artwork. Our curriculum contributes to pupil’s personal development in creativity, independence, judgement and self-reflection. Children at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery will have a love of learning and enthusiasm for Art and Design, which they will draw upon and develop throughout their lives.

 

Design & Technology

Our Design and Technology curriculum and our teaching ensures that pupils will be motivated, engaged in their learning and challenged appropriately in Design and Technology. The structure of the Design and Technology curriculum ensures that children are able to develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. They will build on and apply their knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make prototypes and products for a range of users, and critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products. Pupils will develop their confidence and independence in the subject and will understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.  Our curriculum encourages pupils to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable members of society. Children at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery will have a love of learning and enthusiasm for Design and Technology, which they will draw upon and develop throughout their lives.

 

Music

At Kings Ford Infant School and Nursery, the structure of our Music curriculum will increase children’s self-confidence and creativity, promote their well-being and provide a sense of achievement, as well as facilitating the discovery of their own musical preferences.  As pupils progress, they will develop a growing musical vocabulary that allows them to critically engage with music. The teaching and learning of music are a reflective process where the children are given opportunities to assess and evaluate musical compositions and performances, not only of professionals, but also of their own work and that of their peers.  Children celebrate their success and skills with their peers and wider audiences during whole-school performances and extra-curricular activities.   All pupils will benefit from a high-quality Music education which engages, challenges and inspires a passion for music and develops their talent as musicians. 

 

Religious Education

Our R.E curriculum and our teaching ensures that pupils will be motivated, engaged in their learning and challenged appropriately in R.E. They will become more confident when talking about what they have learned and will able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world. Pupils will develop their independence and become familiar with different religions and the choices people make to follow or not to follow religions and ways of living, helping to combat prejudiced views.  Pupils will develop their sense of identity and belonging, and develop respect for and sensitivity to others, in particular those whose faiths and beliefs are different to their own.  Religious Education will be related to real-life examples and will help to prepare pupils for the wider world. Pupils at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery will have a love of learning and enthusiasm for Religious Education, which they will draw upon and develop throughout their lives. 

Computing

Our Computing curriculum and our teaching ensures that pupils will be motivated, engaged in their learning and challenged appropriately.   The structure of the Computing curriculum ensures that children can develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently, and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. Pupils will develop their confidence and independence in the use of technology and will understand and apply the principles of computing and programming.   They will have a secure and comprehensive knowledge of the implications of technology and digital systems, which is important in a society where technologies and trends are rapidly evolving.  Children at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery will have a love of learning and enthusiasm for computing, which they will draw upon and develop throughout their lives. 

PSHE

 

At King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery, we can judge the success of our PSHE curriculum by the outcome of our children being able to approach a range of real life situations and apply their skills and attributes to help them to navigate themselves through modern life. They will become healthy, open minded, respectful, socially and morally responsible, active members of society who appreciate difference and diversity. Our pupils will be able to understand and manage their emotions and will have learnt ways to look after their mental health and well-being. Children at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery will have developed positive, healthy relationships with their peers and other adults, and a love of learning, which they will draw upon and develop throughout their lives.

 

RSE

At King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery, we can judge the success of our RSE curriculum by the outcome of our children being able to develop positive, healthy relationships with their peers and other adults both now and in the future. Children will be able to understand the physical aspects involved in RSE at an age appropriate level. They will learn to have respect for themselves and others leading to every child having a positive self-esteem and confidence in talking, listening and thinking about feelings and relationships. Children will learn to make informed choices and decisions to be able to develop personal initiative and be able to take responsibility, maintain and develop relationships.

 

Physical Education

As a result of our teaching at King’s Ford Infant School and Nursery, pupils will be motivated, engaged in their learning and appropriately challenged in PE. With the implementation of a well sequenced curriculum our children will develop their physical skills and make improvements from their own starting points. Through experiencing a variety of physical activities and sporting events, they will be motivated to try new physical activities as well as develop their skills in ones which they enjoy. From our lessons, our children will learn to take responsibility for their own health and fitness and recognise the importance of physical activity to aid their overall wellbeing. Our children will be equipped with the necessary skills and have developed a love of sport which will enable them to live healthy lives utilising the skills and knowledge acquired through PE.
