Welcome to Green Class!

Welcome to Green Class! I am your Reception teacher Miss Payne, and we have Mrs Fisher as our learning support assistant. We also have Mrs Neilson, who is a 1-1 learning support assistant.

Our topic this term is ‘Where am I?’. We are going to be settling into school by learning about our friends, using The Colour Monster to talk about our feelings and learn how things work in Reception. As our topic is to do with exploring where we are, we will delve into our exciting outdoor area where we will investigate the seasons, develop our fine and gross motor skills and learn how to play with our friends. We will be getting to know our classroom, the school and what is around us. By using the SCARF scheme, we will talk about ourselves and how we are the same and different, talk about who can help us and our feelings.

In phonics, we will be starting to learn our set 1 sounds and practicing writing them. We are then going to use our knowledge of sounds to blend them into words. We will do this by following our Read, Write, Inc scheme, as well as delving into different resources and activities both inside and outside the classroom to help us practice sounds and words. We are going to be reading books both as a class but individually too. Some books that we are looking at this term include : The Colour Monster, We Are Going On a Bear Hunt, Three Little Pigs, On the Way Home and Coming to England. We will be talking about the different features of books and seeing if we can spot any rhyming. In maths, we will be learning about sorting, comparing and matching. By using songs, manipulatives, games and counting we are going to be learning in depth about the numbers 1-5, shapes and measurement.

In Green Class, we love being creative. We will be working on lots of art projects such as painting self-portraits, learning about colours and different patterns. We also always offer different creative activities through continuous provision, which means whatever we get up to is completely independent. This may be painting, colouring, drawing, print ing or cutting.

This termn, we will be going to explore our local area by walking to the park and describing what we can see and our route. We will be exploring maps and different places that are in our community.

We will have P.E every Monday morning so please ensure that your child comes to school with a PE kit. It is really important that we learn about spacial awareness in PE, we will exploring how our bodies move through yoga and dance. Please also make sure that your child brings their named school water bottle and book bag every day. In their bags they will have their reading log and school book. Please feel free to  write a comment about how they are getting on with their Reading at home.

I am so privileged and excited to see your children grow and progress over the year. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact me via email or at pick up once all the children have been collected. I can also point you in the right direction to any educational websites, activities or good books that you use with your child at home.

Thank you,
Miss Payne
