Blue Class Update!
We have had a very busy term.
Everyone is enjoying swimming lessons and improving every week.
We have been extremely busy with all of our science work on plants and living things. We have been harvesting strawberries and potatoes so far. Our sunflowers are growing tall and strong.
We are looking forward to putting on our end of year production where we will think about all the things that we have learnt and enjoyed.
Welcome to Blue Class.
The Summer term is very full and very exciting.
The whole school topic is ‘Beside the Seaside’ and we will be learning about coastal locations, Australia, animal habitats and plants.
There will be lots of planting and growing for our science work and also as part of our Eco Schools initiative. Start investigating bees ready for our Bee Week.
We will also watch scenes from the film ‘A Turtle’s Tale’ to help us learn about life in the seas and oceans. Part of this links to environmental education, we will learn how humans and their rubbish are affecting life in the water.
Remember to bring in warm and waterproof clothes for our fortnightly Forest Schools sessions where we explore and learn using the outdoor environment.
Swimming lessons start this term. Make sure you have your swimming hat, costume/trunks, towel and bag ready. The lessons are great fun and it is amazing to watch how quickly non swimmers become confident in the water.
Please ensure that children have a P.E. kit in school and that their plimsolls/trainers still fit.
The Key Stage One SATs assessments will take place starting the week beginning Tuesday 8th May for all year 2 pupils. This will include two maths papers (arithmetic and reasoning) and two reading comprehension papers.
We have two educational visits in the summer term. On Tuesday 1st May we will be visiting Layer Marney Towers as part of last term’s history focus on the Tudors. On Monday 16th July we will be going to the beach at Frinton-on-Sea as part of our geography focus on coastal locations. Letters will go out nearer the time with more details.
Look out for the date of our Blue Class assembly.
Please see the topic grid for this term which goes into more detail regarding some of the activities we will be taking part in as we lead up to the end of the school year. A copy of the weekly homework letters will also be available here on the school website.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me or another member of the year two team.
